SUPPORT BCPS THROUGH A LEGACY GIFT

BCPS encourages its friends to consider making a gift by bequest to ensure the means to continue our mission and fulfill our vision for the future. Your gift will allow you to leave your legacy with our organization while helping BCPS improve more lives in our community. When making a bequest, you can specify either a specific amount or a percentage of your residuary estate to be gifted to BCPS. Bequests made from a donor’s residuary estate are distributed only after payment of taxes, debts, administrative costs and specific bequests. You may also specify how you would like BCPS to use your gift, which will enable you to support a program or service that is important to you.

The following is suggested language that may be used by a testator or attorney when writing a bequest to BCPS.

  • Specific Dollar Amount

“I give, devise and bequeath to Berks Connections/Pretrial Services, a non-profit organization established in 1975 as the “Berks County Prison Society” and located in Reading, PA, Berks County, the sum of _____dollars ($_____) (or other specifically described personal or real property) for its general uses and purposes (or a specific purpose may be designated).”

  • Specific Percentage

“I give, devise and bequeath to Berks Connections/Pretrial Services, a non-profit organization established in 1975 as the “Berks County Prison Society” and located in Reading, PA, Berks County, an amount equal to ______percent (_____%) of the value of my estate at the time of my death for its general uses and purposes (or a specific purpose).”

  • Residual Bequest

“I give, devise and bequeath to Berks Connections/Pretrial Services, a non-profit organization established in 1975 as the “Berks County Prison Society” and located in Reading, PA, Berks County, all of the residue of my estate, both real and personal, for its general uses and purposes.”

  • Contingent Bequest

“If the above-named beneficiaries should predecease me, then I give, devise and bequeath to Berks Connections/Pretrial Services, a non-profit organization established in 1975 as the “Berks County Prison Society” and located in Reading, PA, Berks County, all of my property and estate, both real and personal, for its general uses and purposes.”

When you provide BCPS with information regarding your bequest, such as the bequest amount and designation, you will be recognized for your gift. You will also receive special invitations to agency events. If you are comfortable doing so, we hope you will share your intentions with BCPS by using the Estate Commitment Form so that your generosity and support may be appropriately honored during your lifetime.

Legal advice is essential when drafting a Will. Because a Will reflects your deepest wishes, it should be carefully constructed to accomplish exactly what you desire to happen with your assets. The above information is intended, therefore, to serve only as a guideline for you and not as a substitute for professional legal counsel. We urge you to consult with your advisers to determine the most appropriate way for you to remember BCPS in your Will.
